Dear unlike.net,
Can I have a job please? I’m a fun person who loves writing and I have a whole wodge of relevant travel, publishing, web experience. It would probably be amazing!
My name is Josh, I’m a native Scot (over here after a good six years in Edinburgh). I’ve been writing for going on five years, starting with TheSkinny.co.uk, a print and listings mag which I helped get off the ground (I edited the games section; commissioned content, hounded PRs, met horrific deadlines, pushed the print magazine around town in a trolley at the start of it all).
I started my own mag (www.square-go.com), it was originally print too, but that aspect died somewhat. Now it’s just an awesome videogames site.
I love travel writing (did some with The Skinny / have been debating doing more work off of my own back), and writing in general (my creative writing blog lives here: www.somethingididntdo.com; it get’s a bit weird sometimes, though. ‘Kay?).
I’m currently freelancing but would like something more solid.
Maybe it’s with you?
I’ve read the site (even before actually seeing the job ad), I like your steese and it would be grand to work with you (I think the website has a nice feel, so if working with you is like the website then: COOL) if you are happy enough having someone who writes a cover letter like this. (I hope you are).
I’m not sure if it will help me get the job, but if you employ me I’m going to buy a new SLR, with that I can take picture while travelling (which I love, did I mention that? I should have… I’m going to Jordan this weekend!). Maybe those pictures can be used for unlike (maybe they will be shite… who knows?)
Anyway, for some reason I thought that make make me more employable.
I hope it did,
Kind regards,
Josh
